Adam Kieft, a member of the Fruitport High School Class of 2002, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain and spinal cord tumor in the fall of 1996 (while in sixth grade) and courageously battled until March 15, 2003, when his body succumbed to cancer. In honor of Adam's life, the FHS Class of 2002 established the Adam Kieft Memorial Scholarship with the help of the Fruitport Education Foundation.
Prior to his illness, Adam was full of energy and enjoyed playing soccer, as well as street and ice hockey. He had a love of all sports and enjoyed following the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Red Wings. Adam was involved in his church youth group and after graduation became a youth leader where he had a special rapport with children. Adam also loved to tinker with machines and had hoped to be trained as a mechanic.
