Longtime local physician, the late Dr. Robert H. Pierce, was a true humanitarian with a caseload of thousands of patients from the Fruitport area and beyond. He was a fixture in all facets of life within the Fruitport school district. He served as a Board of Education member and was team physician for the athletic program for more than forty years. Virtually every Fruitport High School athlete received their physical from “Doc Pierce.” He was a familiar fixture on the sideline of every home football game, keeping a watchful eye on each participant’s performance and tending to any injury that occurred.
A man of integrity, generosity and compassion, Dr. Pierce will long be remembered as an individual who gave much of himself to his community and to the students of FCS. His accomplishments and service toward our community and Fruitport Schools leaves a lasting legacy.
A scholarship fund was established following the death of Dr. Pierce’s son Todd and grandson Trevor. Since Doc’s passing the fund has become known as the Dr. Robert H. Pierce Family Scholarship Fund.
