KEN ERNY
The Ken Erny Leadership Scholarship is named in honor of Coach Ken Erny, who led Fruitport Schools as a Hall of Fame athletic director and soccer coach for 30 years.
Student-athlete leadership development was always at the forefront in Coach Erny’s time at Fruitport. When it came to leadership, Ken not only talked the talk, but he certainly walked the walk. He created the SALT, Student-Athlete Leadership Team, and invested in young men and women at Fruitport, helping them develop leadership skills and mindsets that would go with them well-beyond the field of play and their time at FHS.
We lost Ken too soon, as he passed away in 2023 after battling ALS. Through the struggle, Ken modeled the leadership and character lessons he taught others for so many years. The impact he made on Fruitport Schools and the community as a whole was demonstrated through how many people stepped up to help, love and honor him in his last years.
The Erny family is honored to award this scholarship each year to a male and female student-athlete at Fruitport High School who have demonstrated the leadership qualities Ken valued. We are so grateful for the community of Fruitport and all those who make this scholarship possible.
